Benson Boone Golden 1 Center Concert reviews
Delightful!!
Sara Bakker's performance was absolutely outstanding, and I would be remiss if I did not praise her. As a frequent Broadway attendee, I was disheartened to learn that Benson Boone's role was played by an understudy. Now, I write this review as a devoted fan of Bakker who portrayed the role brilliantly.
Traveling with three people unfamiliar with the storyline, we all thoroughly enjoyed the performance, with the second act standing out more than the first. Seeing the movie with Julie Andrews and Dick VanDyke as a child, I was uncertain how certain memorable moments would be depicted on stage.
While we would watch it again without hesitation, I must mention that the set design and staging seemed to receive more attention than the storytelling. The first act felt rushed, lacking the build-up I expected from a Disney production. Thus, I gave it a 4-star rating instead of 5. I have revisited shows like Wicked and Jersey Boys multiple times, but I am unsure if I will do the same with this one.
